WE BELIEVE
the Bible is the written word of God, inspired by the Holy Spirit and without error in the original manuscripts.
WE BELIEVE
in the Holy Trinity. There is one God, who exists eternally in three persons: the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
WE BELIEVE
that Jesus Christ is the eternal Son of God, who through His perfect life and sacrificial death atoned for the sins of all who will trust in Him, alone, for salvation.
The Beliefs of Our Denomination
First Presbyterian Church in Fairfield, Iowa is a member of the Presbyterian Church (USA). Presbyterian theology emphasizes the sovereignty of God, the authority of the Scriptures, and the necessity of grace through faith in Christ. At the core of Presbyterian identity is a secure hope in the grace of God in Jesus Christ, a hope that, by the power of the Holy Spirit, empowers us to live lives of gratitude.
Presbyterians are distinctive in two major ways. We adhere to a pattern of religious thought known as Reformed theology and a form of government which emphasizes that the leadership of the church is shared between those called to be ministers and church members called to be elders within the congregation. This strong emphasis on Presbyterian church government is our heritage from Scottish Presbyterians and John Calvin.
